University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) is India's and Pan Asia's first Energy & Core Sector University. UGC approved and NAAC accredited, UPES offers over 47 graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs to more than 5000 students in the high growth sectors of Oil & Gas, Power, Aviation, Shipping, Automobile, Infrastructure, Electronics, IT and Logistics & Supply Chain. The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) and Centre for Aviation Studies (CAS), UPES offer Executive programs through distance learning mode for the working professionals.


A statutory university, UPES was established in 2003 through an Act (UPES Act, 2003) of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. It is situated in a picturesque, 30-acre spacious campus in Pondha valley, Dehradun.

UPES’s programs in Aerospace Engineering

University of Petroleum and Energy Studies is the only institute of petroleum in India and conducts a variety of engineering oriented courses associated with peripheral sectors. One of these courses is the B. Tech. program in Aerospace Engineering, whose objective is to train the students to handle technical issues pertaining to this sector.

This involves designing, analyzing and manufacturing airplanes, rockets, missiles, space launch vehicles (SLVs), unmanned aerial vehicles, among others. The program makes the students industry ready and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to face the challenges posed by this field of work.

Apart from it, this university of petroleum studies also runs a B. Tech. program in Aerospace Engineering that also provides the students specialization in Avionics Engineering. It is an interdisciplinary course that combines the most important facets of     electronics, instrumentation and aeronautics fields. The petroleum university India imparts comprehensive knowledge about the avionics as well as aeronautics fields so that the students who are enrolled in the program can easily and satisfactorily provide optimized solutions for the development of this field.
